Oscar came to the United States from Mexico 17-years ago and reflects on his time here as a blessing, full of opportunities and challenges. His favorite part of his job as a product installer is when clients are pleased with his work. Oscar is very skilled and pays close attention to detail. He considers himself a perfectionist and requires that every nail is straight and that every rock and pebble is laid back in place.
An animal enthusiast, Oscar wants homeowners to know that it is better for animals if they are trapped by a humane organization, than if residents try to get rid of them with moth balls and rags soaked in ammonia. One of Oscar’s roles is to dig beneath peoples’ decks to remove dead animals. Often, the animals died painfully because homeowners poisoned them. “It is more humane and economical to have them captured in cages and taken away,” Oscar says.
When not working, he spends plenty of time with his family. Oscar and his wife, Lupe are the proud parents of 6 beautiful children, Edgar 19, Miriam 17, Veronica 16, Christina 12, Jesus 7 and Dulce 3. They are eagerly awaiting the birth of their 7th child in September 2003. Oscar works very hard to support his family and he says that they mean everything to him.
Oscar’s dream is that all of his children will graduate from college and lead fulfilling lives. His oldest son, Edgar works with him as a product installer and will begin college classes this Fall. Edgar’s not the only one in the family going to college; ABC Humane Wildlife Control is providing Oscar’s tuition and books in Harper College’s ESL program.
