Malia puts her bachelors degree in public relations to good use serving as ABC Humane Wildlife Control’s liaison to the business community. Whether calling on a CEO or Chief of Police, Malia’s warmth and wit always shine through.

An avid outdoorswoman, Malia enjoys spending long weekends at her family’s rustic Northern Wisconsin cabin. Don’t let her good looks fool you; she’s no priss! In fact, she often returns from her cabin with a skinned knee from riding her moped too fast on the gravel road or the occasional bump and bruise from a playful wrestling match.

While hiking or bird watching, Malia is generally the first person to spot wildlife. Her trained eye made our trip to Volo Bog State Natural Area very rewarding, as she pointed out Great Blue Herons, nesting Swans, Painted Turtles, and plenty of mushrooms and plants.

Of Malia’s projects, she most enjoys the satisfaction of matching injured and orphaned wildlife with qualified rehabilitators. She explains, “I’ll stay on the phone all day if that’s what is needed to find a place for them with a rehabilitator, because despite their ordeal, they will have a chance at life.” Malia wants people to know that they should not attempt to raise baby animals on their own. She says, “…peoples’ good intentions are not enough to properly care for orphaned wildlife…knowledge of diseases and nutrition is necessary for the animal’s safety as well as the person’s, so it should be left only to licensed professionals.”
